Does it make sense to drive an electric car? Absolutely! Electric vehicles are great for commuters and those who drive less than 100 miles in a day. And guess what, most of us drive much less than 100 miles per day. Imagine going for weeks or months or maybe forever without stopping for gas. It's not only possible, it's now practical.
As I've mentioned, the secret is efficiency. You need to convert cars in the shortest amount of time to maximize output and profits. Others have done it before, and as the price of gas increases so do their profits. It's not too late either. You still have many years to ride the wave.
The first thing you need to have is a car. Choose a small, lightweight vehicle for this project as heavier cars will consume more energy. You need to save on your battery power.
It is easier for a government to regulate emissions produced from one power plant rather than several million cars. A power plant is properly maintained to a high standard which many cars on the road are not. Sadly, one small mechanical issue from a fouled spark plug to a low tire can lead to a modern vehicle's emissions being increased dramatically.
Always keep this in mind: first generation Electric Vehicles will have some problems with them. After all, the technology is new and is being mass produced. There are bound to innovative electric car developments be issues with them that will eventually be worked out. Thus, the need for warranties especially with first generation cars!
Due to high fuel prices we are starting to see electric cars crop up again. The Toyota Prius is a hybrid-part electric, part gas-burning-but vehicles could make the move to entirely electric soon. So it's smart to start thinking about electric cars as a viable option.

Extol the virtues of alternative fuels as much as you want. But unless you can assure Mrs Soccer mom that her life will not be adversely affected, then average America will continue to be slow in the adoption of alternative fuels.
